Ireland’s Eoin Moran and Denmark’s Marianne Thyrring have been re-elected Chair and Vice-Chair of the council of Europe’s Meteorological Satellite Agency, EUMETSAT.

EUMETSAT’s 30-member-state council confirmed their renewed two-year posts during its meeting in Darmstadt, Germany, today.

Moran, Director of Ireland’s national meteorological Service, Met Éireann, also serves as 2nd Vice-President of the World Meteorological Organization, is Chair of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts’ Policy Advisory Committee and a member of Ireland’s Climate Change Advisory Council.

Thyrring has been Director-General of the Danish Meteorological Institute since 2013 and has held senior climate and environment-related roles in the European Commission and the Danish Government.

“I’m delighted Eoin and Marianne have been re-elected to their leadership roles and looking forward to working with them over the next two years,” EUMETSAT Director-General Phil Evans said.

“EUMETSAT has benefited from their guidance and expertise as we begin the deployment phase of our next-generation satellite systems. We will continue to work together to face the challenge of providing our member states with the information they need to serve and protect their communities during a time of more frequent severe weather events.”
