The LI MAG meeting #13 was devoted to:

  • Communicating to the LI MAG members the status of the MTG programme and of the MTG LI system procurement.
  • Presenting to the LI MAG about the MTG User Days event.
  • Reporting on the status of the development of off-line tools.
  • Discussing the role of the MAG board for LI commissioning and presenting the status of the activities for user preparation.

Objectives and outcomes

1. Communicating to the LI MAG members the status of the MTG programme and of the MTG LI system procurement
The objective was accomplished by having key people from ESA and EUMETSAT presenting the status of the MTG programme, ground segment procurement, LI instrument procurement, and LI commissioning.

2. Presenting to the LI MAG about the MTG User Days event
The objective was accomplished by having the person responsible for the organisation of the MTG User Days presenting the goal of this event. In addition, the discussion focused on those key points to be communicated to the users (e.g. LI expected performance, duration of commissioning, etc.) and on the R&D long-term perspectives of the LI mission.

3. Reporting on the status of the development of off-line tools
The objective was accomplished by having the LI Science Team reporting on the status of two of the key off-line tools for LI commissioning: the LI Statistical and Reporting Tool (LI-STAR) and the LI Processing Visualization Tool (LI-PVT). In addition, the latest version of the Look-Up-Tables for the correction of both parallax and photon-travel-time were presented and discussed.

4. Discussing the role of the MAG board for LI commissioning and presenting the status of the activities for user preparation
The objective was accomplished by having the chair of the LI MAG board for LI commissioning presenting the possible approach for the support of the LI MAG to the MTG programme for LI commissioning. The approach was discussed and it has been agreed that EUMETSAT shall start defining the framework for the coordination and exchange of information between the board and LI Instrument Functional Chain team.
