World Environment Day is an annual event held on 5 June to bring people together to protect and restore the Earth. Led by UNEP and held since 1973, the day has grown to be an important global platform for environmental outreach and involves millions of people every year.

The theme for 2024 is land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.

EUMETSAT’s Meteosat satellites are a key part of the global ring of geostationary weather satellites and observe the Earth over Europe, Africa and the Indian Ocean. See their current view from our Earth view stream.
