Image of the week: Cyclone Sean
Watching our Earth from space
This week’s image of the week is of Cyclone Sean off the west coast of Australia. The image was captured by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 20 January 2025.
Cyclone Sean was the second tropical cyclone of Australia’s 2024-2025 cyclone season (November-April).
It developed into a category 4 storm and although it didn’t make landfall, the cyclone brought strong winds and very heavy rainfall to the Pilbara coast (northwest Australia), flooding roads and houses and causing the closure of several ports.
