The Caspian Sea is the world’s largest inland body of water. It is rich in biodiversity, serving as the world’s largest spawning grounds for sturgeon and home to over 130 endemic fish species, the Caspian Seal and more than 100 species of wetland birds that use the area for nesting and migration.

Surface winds regularly stir up sediment in shallow coastal areas giving the sea a milky colour, which can be seen in the image.
