The visit took place at the invitation of the head of EUMETSAT’s Türkiye delegation Volkan Mutlu Coşkun, Director-General of the Turkish State Meteorological Service, who accompanied Ratier during his stay.

Discussions with Dr Pakdemirli focused on the socio-economic benefits, estimated at €2.6 billion per year, that weather forecasts bring to Turkish citizens and the country’s economy, and the contribution of EUMETSAT data to this.

Türkiye has been a Member State of EUMETSAT since 1986.

While in Ankara, Ratier also visited the TUBITAK Space Technologies Research Institute, the WMO Regional Training Centre, and the Turkish State Meteorological Services facilities.
