"I am very happy to welcome Eleni Katsampani to EUMETSAT’s management board” EUMETSAT Director-General Phil Evans said. “Eleni Katsampani has been an asset for EUMETSAT since she joined in 2013, and I am looking forward to working more closely with her on ensuring that our administration remains fit for purpose and supports the growing range of our missions.”
“It is an honour and a pleasure to have been appointed as the new Director of Administration for EUMETSAT,” Katsampani said. “I look forward to working with colleagues across the entire organisation, to shape a more agile administration that will support EUMETSAT’s expanding missions in these fast-moving times and changing context. I would like to thank our member states for placing their trust in me.”
In her new role, Katsampani oversees the administration of the financial and human resources needed by EUMETSAT and provides the organisation with both a regulatory framework and an administrative infrastructure.
She takes over from Silvia Castañer, who is retiring after 35 years at EUMETSAT, first as Head of the Legal Affairs Division and subsequently as Director of Administration. “I would like to thank my predecessor for everything she has done in shaping the administrative function at EUMETSAT over the last decade. She leaves a strong Administration Department which is ready to tackle the challenges of the coming years.”
Katsampani already achieved a successful career at EUMETSAT which she joined in 2013 as Head of Contracts. In this function, she managed the organisation’s procurement process for goods, works and services in compliance with EUMETSAT’s financial rules and procurement procedures for achieving best value for money. She led the reform of EUMETSAT service contracts following the introduction of a new labour legislation in Germany in 2017/2018. Katsampani was also responsible for simplifying the procurement workflows and introducing end-to-end electronic procurement processes. In addition, she introduced the procurement review procedure and supported the appointment of the EUMETSAT Ombudsperson and his alternate.
