RAIDEG meets twice yearly, in online and in-person formats. This year’s in-person meeting will take place in September at EUMETSAT’s headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. In the meeting, the group will focus on the status of the first Meteosat Third Generation satellite, Imager-1, launched in December 2022, and take stock of efforts to upgrade “PUMA” , EUMETCast or user receiving stations along with relevant training preparations.
The group will also discuss how to improve the access and use of satellite data and products that are delivered by EUMETSAT’s dissemination system EUMETCast-Africa and EUMETCast Terrestrial, as well as other channels, such as EUMETView, data store or cloud computing.
In addition, a key topic will be the access and use of data for nowcasting purposes, including the operation of the Nowcasting SAF’s software in Africa, as a building block towards a future African-owned Meteorological Satellite Application Facility (AMSAF).
